Weekly Watch Focus: Pray for the Leaders of Your City

When leaders lead in Israel, when the people willingly offer themselves, bless the Lord!” (Judges 5:2).

FRIDAY, June 12, 2020— In the book of Judges, the Bible describes what happens when there is a leadership vacuum, “There was no king in Israel, but every man did what was right in his own eyes.” Village life ceased, trade routes were too dangerous to travel on, looting and robbery were the rule, and human life and activity was degraded into abuse, perversion, and beastly behavior. We are seeing this played out right now in our cities, many of which are in crisis as violent protests and riots have wreaked havoc and brought destruction and chaos to our streets. The answer is not to step back and let anarchy reign. The answer is for leaders to lead.

Stand in the gap for your city leaders. From the mayor, to the city council, to your law enforcement and community leaders, and to the spiritual gatekeepers of your city, pray for counsel, and swift, godly action with wisdom and authority to bring the shalom and order of the Lord to your city. Pray for the Lord to raise up anointed leaders in your local government. Pray for your city’s pastors and civic leaders to arise as voices of influence to bring calm, healing, and restoration of civil society. Bind the spirits of violence, Marxism, and division that would tear down the walls of our city, our government, and our society to bring in lawlessness. Pray for supernatural angelic protection and provision for the police officers and first-responders primarily responsible to keep peace and order in our cities. Pray for a shield around neighborhoods, churches, synagogues, businesses, and government centers in your city. Welcome the Holy Spirit to your city and pray for awakening to bring city-wide revival and transformation. As you pray, ask the Lord how you can get involved to bring restoration of righteousness to your city leadership.

Finally, we pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May we prosper and be in peace as we pray for the city God calls His own.
